New Comment Policy

Let me go ahead and announce a change I the comment policy before anyone accuses me of trying to sneak it passed everyone. You now need a Google account or other Open ID I order to comment on the Eye. You can o longer comment anonymously. From the beginning, I have grated the Mark of Cain to anyone who decided to say something about a post, so it irritates me to do this.

But there are two reasons for the change. One, lately two or three different people have commented anonymously in the same post and debated with other commenters. Which is great, but confusing to differentiate. Two, I have had an increasing umber of trolls hiding behind anonymity.

For the former, I think if you have something worth saying, you ca put some sort of identification with it. It does not take anything to sign up for a Google account or Open ID. For the latter, you still have Formspring to ask anonymous questions or comments. The catch is I respond in posts, so if you are going to be a troll, you are going to be one in front of everyone, not just buried behind an added ink. Plus, I am going to be really mean and sarcastic in response. So there.

I do not think the change is unreasonable, but you may vent if the comments if you deem it necessary--if you hae Google or Open ID, that is.
