I was jut released from the hospital about two hours ago. A Saturday morning trip to the emergency room for severe abdominal pain turned into a six day extravaganza of IV medication, a few invasive procedures, and nothing but broth and Jell-O up until some toast this morning. Lots of fun. Long story short--the old colon ain’t what she used to be.
There are no interesting anecdote to tell this time around. I spent te week staring at an IV drip, which I found a lot more fascinating than the game show and soap operas that plague daytime television. Do people actually watch tat stuff day in and day out? Tal about turning your mind into mush. I missed watching my beloved Gamecocks tae down number one Alabama. Drat. I was really busy at te time, in my defense.
Other than being about nine pounds lighter with the dizziness that goes along with such rapid weight loss I am all right. Normalcy will resume when it resumes. Thanks to loaded up my inbox with concerns. It is nice to know I was missed. hea

Take iI to the Limit
If you have not been able to tell by my writings, I am an anal, somewhat obsessive compulsive sort. I have a particular acute problem when it comes to numbers. Keeping a budget arriving at a place at a certain time, cooking a certain amount of food-- I obsess over getting these things right even when I am safely rolling along with each. As far as compulsion go, it is one of the best to suffer since I am at least a reliable guy. Never the less, it can cause some sleepless nights.
Case in point: Tuesday night, as I was posting, I noticed the fine print the blogspot image uploader. There is an overall limit o 1 GB of space for photos on your entire blog. Chalk it up to my poor vision I have never seen that before and dumb luck I happened to find it then. But I have been fretting over it since.
Let me explain a few thins for those not dwelling in the Blogspot ghetto. Since January 1st, 2007, every photo you upload to Blogspot goes into a Picasa account. I was unaware of this until Tuesday. You may point ad laugh if necessary, but I did not realize these images wet into any sort of storage with a finite amount of space. I have been posting images like I will never run out of space. Turns out I will and I have been dwelling n it for days.
I have had the opportunity to stroll through these folders and am kind of appalled by how many I have posted. From January 1st, 2007 to October 4, 2010, I have posted over 4,000 images. Cutting back is a certainty. A blog is a written journal, not eye candy. Beyond celebrity photos and a screencap of the television episode I am reviewing on a certain day, most everything I ad to a pot is extraneous. Generally, images do nothing more than add to the page loading time, so I am going to be more economical about it in the future.
Tat aid, look at the reality. It as taken me four years of blogging to post 4,000 images, but that still only took up 25% of my 1GB limit. I could continue going at my usual pace for another twelve years before reaching the limit. In internet terms that is several centuries of technological change that would most certainly render the problem irrelevant anyway. In real world terms, surely I will have either found something better to do in the interim or will have fallen over dead from a second colon rupture, whichever is more likely.
Even barring that, there are free image hosting sights which can e used with ease. Wordpress, I am told, as 3 GB limit on images, so I can blog for forty-eight years straight at my current pace of image posting beyond the twelve at Blogspot for a gran total of sixty years, if I lived to be 91.
But that is not good enough to soothe my jangled nerves. So for the last early a day and a half, I have gone through all 4,000 an deleted repeats where I changed the size before posting, old banners I no longer use, and any image I have deemed extraneous--usually meaning those on political oriented posts, but some others, too. I now have my storage uage down to 15% from 25%. For no good reason other than to soothe my mind. I figured you might like to have this insight into my psyche.

Formspring Question # 36--All By Myself Edition
Ever think about adding a co-blogger?No, I will screw up my own blog, thanks.
Formspring Question # 35--Flags of Our Bloggers Edition
I want a state flag counter, too, but only the country flags one is available. Where did you get yours? It has been discontinued for whatever reason, but you can still get one here.
The site warns that it will never be updated, but since I cannot tell the difference with updates on the country version, I am not sure exactly what issues it will cause. I have been satisfied either way.

New Comment Policy
Let me go ahead and announce a change I the comment policy before anyone accuses me of trying to sneak it passed everyone. You now need a Google account or other Open ID I order to comment on the Eye. You can o longer comment anonymously. From the beginning, I have grated the Mark of Cain to anyone who decided to say something about a post, so it irritates me to do this.
But there are two reasons for the change. One, lately two or three different people have commented anonymously in the same post and debated with other commenters. Which is great, but confusing to differentiate. Two, I have had an increasing umber of trolls hiding behind anonymity.
For the former, I think if you have something worth saying, you ca put some sort of identification with it. It does not take anything to sign up for a Google account or Open ID. For the latter, you still have Formspring to ask anonymous questions or comments. The catch is I respond in posts, so if you are going to be a troll, you are going to be one in front of everyone, not just buried behind an added ink. Plus, I am going to be really mean and sarcastic in response. So there.
I do not think the change is unreasonable, but you may vent if the comments if you deem it necessary--if you hae Google or Open ID, that is.

Blogging Tip
When adding a frivolous new button to your blog, do not accidentally delete the counties of the world flag counter that has logged 300,000 visitors from all across the planet over the last year and a half.Because that will be...irritating.
UPDATE: Called for at a time like this. Thanks, Kristina.

BlogNetNews is Kaput
BlogNetNews.com went down early last week, taking its state ranking system with it. I had hoped there were just some technical problems, but I heard through the face book grapevine owner David Mastio shut the domain down, presumably for good, because of dwindling advertising sales.
I did not think I would much care, but I found myself a bit melancholy there were no new weekly rankings coming late Saturday night as there normally would be from the site. That is a cruel thing to yank away from a statistics junkie after offering him a regular hit for well over a year.
Admittedly, the eye was not a very good fit. BlogNetNews was designed to measure the popularity of political blogs in any given state. Generally speaking, said blogs should have emphasized the state’s internal political happenings. I have never maintained the Eye as a South Carolina specific blogs and as I have frequently drifted out of politics towards science fiction and celebrity photos, I really ticked off fellow bloggers by routinely ranking within the top twenty blogs.
In fact, I have been as high as number two I the state, while I most frequently hovered I the eight to fifteen area. Regardless of where I ranked, it was fun to follow the week to week trend. I am going to miss it. When and if someone buys the set up and cranks it back up again, I know it will ever be the same.

Introducing Apocalypse Cinema
I had been debating for a while how to incorporate movie reviews into the Eye. I could not figure out how to make the individual reviews fit comfortably in with the rest of the content here while still being easily accessible. I wanted an easy way to list every movie review so you could conveniently click right on the review you wanted to read. Alas, the only way I could do that was to put them on a separate blog devoted solely to movie reviews. So that is what I did. Apocalypse Cinema is the place where I am going to periodically review any movie I see that merit some comment, for better or for worse. I say periodically because I was planning to write reviews here whenever the mood struck, not on any set schedule. So Apocalypse Cinema might be updated once a day for a long time or once a month for an even longer time.
I will probably link to new reviews here if they become that infrequent just as a convenience. Science fiction film may get the cross posting treatment, but exclusive content will rule the day now that I have transferred all the existing movie reviews from the Eye to there.
As a bonus, I have never before seen reviews for all four Rambo movies up now so you can judge how the movie reviews are going to go. They are virtually identical to my television reviews here, but it is still a work in progress. Changes will come as necessary.
The eye is still my login focus, so nothing is going to change here in frequency or content. I am just could not fid away to squeeze in my Roger Ebert routine into what is already here.

Facebook Made Me Add a Widget to the Eye
My RSS feed had been simultaneously publishing posts on my Facebook page, but I noticed earlier the feed conked out on me a few days ago. I am not certain whether it is wobbly Blogspot or face book’s fault, but since I was not using that fandangled NteworkBlogs widget everyone is now using, I figure this is how face book is getting back at me for me.
Never let it be said I will not appease my internet overlords. I signed up for Facebook against my will, too. I am now using the NetworkedBlogs application. There is a widget about halfway down the left hand column of the E ye in which, assuming you have been ensnared by Facebook as well, you may become a follower at the click of a button. I had to put it on my blog in order to prove I have administrative access and get the feed published again. Devious, no?
Following the Eye not subject you to spam or any commitment to read the eye on any regular basis. The widget just looks pitiful right now with only four followers. Thanks in advance for helping out.

Housekeeping
I've finally gotten around to adding links to other blogs and columnists offerings on Caiviar for the Mind. My blog always seemed a little naked without connections to other spots, so here they are. I'll be addng more as time goes on. If you are interested, there is a much wider assortment of links on my home age, also linked off to the side.

Housekeeping
I have increased the font size here in an attempt to save my poor peepers. It was difficult to read my own blog and that just wouldn't do. I've also gone back and corrected a few errors in spelling here and there. They were virtually all a product of me being a hunt and peck typist. I refuse to learn any sort of standard method of typing. It's just my way of sticking it to The Man. After years of research papers for college and law school, not to mention the assorted short stories and screenplays I've written, I can't argue with it. Regardless, in the future all other errors will be immediately hunted down and exterminated with extreme prejudice by our crack team of ninja/assassins/editors here at Jeffords Manor.
