Robert Gibbs Knows the Far Left is Populated by Kooks

In an interview::
The press secretary dismissed the “professional left” in terms very similar to those used by their opponents on the ideological right, saying, “They will be satisfied when we have Canadian healthcare and we’ve eliminated the Pentagon. That’s not reality.”

Of those who complain that Obama caved to centrists on issues such as healthcare reform, Gibbs said: “They wouldn’t be satisfied if Dennis Kucinich was president.”…

Gibbs said the professional left is not representative of the progressives who organized, campaigned, raised money and ultimately voted for Obama.
I take issue with his last statement. The people who organized and ran Barack Obama’s campaign, as well as many who voted for him, were expecting radical, progressive change. There is an abundance of irritation on their part there is no public option included in ObamaCare, the war on terror continues, the wealth has not been properly distributed, mass executions of conservatives have yet to be instituted, etc, etc.

When Obama ran on a platform of promised change, what sort of seed does Gibbs think was planted in voters’ minds?

On a practical level, Obama’s supporters are rapidly jumping ship. He shedding independents, whites, and the few Republicans who supported him in the first place. It is not wise to alienate the progressives. All he will have left are the identity politica obsessed to rally. Good lord, the racial tension that will be caused when those are the only ones to turn up to hear Obama speak.
