Dear Donkey Kong,

You da man.

Everyone else may have been rooting for a certain Italian plumber to “rescue” Pauline, but I was always secretly rooting for you, even as much of my misspent youth was dedicated to reuniting the love birds. I always likened you and Pauline to King Kong and Anne Darrow. Anyone who has a heart is sympathetic to that big lug, so you are in good company.

I have been thrilled over the last fifteen years or so that you have come into your own as an unlikely hero in your own games. Good. You have lived in the shadow of Mario far too long. Beat your chest and roar, buddy. You have earned it.

Have a few bananas o me while you are at it.
