Why the change? There have been two developments since the 2011 schedule change was announced in late July. One, Comcast has purchased NBC/Universal. There is a new sheriff in town and he wants a successful franchise. Jerking Caprica around is not the way to build fan loyalty for the Battlestar Galactica brad. Two, Ronald D. Moore as a new Harry Potter-esque series in development elsewhere. He was the eart and soul of Battlestar Galactica. SyFy does not want to run him off Caprica by treating it like a redheaded stepchild.
Whichever the reason, it was a business decision by the network. Head writer Jane Esperson Twittered the news two days ago as if she was the last to know.
Am I excited about Caprica moving up? I am going to watch, but probably not live. There is something compelling about the show, but it is almost a macabre fascination with how strange it can get rather than becoming engrossed in it the way I could Battletar Galactica. But looking back, I did not think highly of it, either, until the second season really got cooing. I suppose I am holding out hoping Caprica an do the same.
Bottom line--it is better than nothing, but that is faint praise, indeed.
