Barack Obama Supports the Ground Zero Mosque

Two things about Barack Obama’s announced support for the Ground Zero mosque at a dinner celebrating Ramadan out not surprise you. One, that he was chomping at the bit to pledge his support and two, he has equivocated by saying he supports the riht to build the mosque, but does not necessarily support the building of the mosque itself.

You may recognize the latter as a modification of the progressive argument for abortion when they want to hide their support for the practice--”I personally am against abortion, but I should not stop you from murdering your unborn child.” keep an eye out for this argument in all its various forms. Patronizing progressive who believe the unwashed masses are too unsophisticated to grasp nuance will use it constantly to bamboozle.

As Obama often says, let him be clear--he fully supports the mosque. While his support has fired up those who believe Obama is a secret Muslim, many of those are overlooking a bigger issue--the far left has frequently blamed alleged American cultural insensitivity towards the Muslim world for 9/11. Muslim or not, Obama is following the progressive line of making conciliatory moves to appease Muslim hurt feelings over…well, whatever it is Americans have done to Muslims. Liberated Kuwaitis, fed starving Somali children, and ended the Serbian slaughter of Muslims in Bosnia. You know, evil stuff like that.

It has been nearly nine years since 9/11. We are well within our rights to have Bin Laden’s head on a pie at Ground Zero as a warning to the next ten generations some victories come at too high a price. Instead, we getting a thirteen story mosque to celebrate said victory with the blessing of a president we cannot honestly trust. The World Trade Center still has not been rebuilt, either. Tell me this does not look like a surrender to Islam.

One of the things that makes America great--and I say this as a devout Christian--is that we have a steady balance between the religious and the secular. Neither side will allow the other to get too far out of hand. When Christians are absolutely certain we are teetering on the verge of pagan anarchy at the same time secular humanists fear the impending theocracy, you know things are going just right.

This is a time for our secular sensibilities to assert itself. I am all for religious freedom, but there are just some things we cannot allow. I draw a line at valuing the freedom of Muslims to build a mosque near Ground Zero over the memories of those killed in a terrorist act inspired by Islam--and no, I do not say militant Islam. Holy war is a tenet of the “religion of peace” as a whole. To claim otherwise is to propagate a myth similar to Obama’s falsehood that Islam has played a big part in the founding of the United States.

The only good part of Obama’s comment is that he has raised the issue to a national level. Hopefully, it will backfire on him as the rest of the country begins to realize what a dishonor a mosque at Ground Zero would be as well as what an out of touch president we are currently suffering under.
