The Price of Beauty. The purpose of the show was for Simpson to travel around the world interviewing women about the hardships they have faced in trying to maintain the ideal beauty. Tragic eating disorders, bad plastic surgery…that sort of thing.
The Price of Beauty was picked up by VH1, but barely managed a million viewers for its premiere episode. Nevertheless, the series has been renewed for a second season, with one minor catch--it is no a makeover show.
Talk about missing the point.
The Price of Beauty will be going from its original intent of convincing women to appreciate their natural selves rather than killing themselves in the pursuit of whatever nigh unattainable beauty ideal their respective culture demands to boosting “ugly” women’s self-esteem by painting them up for the sake of ratings.
I would not think much of the makeover theme if it the show had not started out with the exact opposite goal I mind. Every woman wants to be pretty--that is why so many have been killing themselves with bulimia and leaky breast implants--so a makeover show is a point of interest. But have mercy, the hypocrisy of the about face. It is too bemusing for words.
She is now engaged to marry Nick Johnson. With rumors flying she bought her own engagement ring, the cynics among us might wish to begin speculation on how long the marriage will last--assuming it gets to that point.
So the rumor goes. The funny thing is gossip sites are saying she would be replacing Simon Cowell when everyone knows the producers are only trying to repeat the spaced out, air head antic of Paula Abdul.

I am going to let my shallow side run on a long leash here. Jessica Simpson is a baby doll. that is about it. she cannot sing. She cannot act. I often wonder how she uses a fork without hurting herself. She may have even cursed the Dallas Cowboys by making Tony Romo weak in the knees. But she is hot. down south, we tend to like them that way--hot and dumb.
She did a passably acceptable cover of Berlin's "Take My Breath Away" a few years ago.
