Barack Obama continues in his habit of bypassing Congress when he is not going to get his way by recess appointing Donald Berwick to head Medicare and Medicaid. Berwick is an avowed socialist who fawns over the British healthcare system and strongly advocates wealth redistribution in the name of healthcare equality.
Berwick also also no prior managerial experience to qualify him to run a program with a budget larger than many countries gross domestic product. None of these facts bother Obama. What is more audacious is that Obama did not even wait for the Senate to reject Berwick. There were no plans for him to ever face Senate confirmation. He never even filled out the initial questionnaire. The only logical reason he would avoid doing so is to hide his radical positions on the issues.
Obama’s complete dodge of the Constitutional advise and consent requirement is the least of the problems this appointment is going to cause.
