It has to be Davros.
I first saw the character when our local PBS station aired “Destiny of the Daleks” sometime in the mid-‘80’s. The scene of dead Davros slumped in his chair with cobwebs all over him would have been enough to spook me, but when he was revived and began ranting about what the Daleks had done to him, I remember flipping out.
The oversized mask that did not fit the actor very well had something to do with it, too. It should have made his appearance look cheap and rubbery, but instead it added to the alien feel I my young mind.
I suspect story editor Douglas Adams added the element of the Fourth Doctor picking the cobwebs off Davros as he ranted was a effort to add some comic relief. Itworks for subsequent viewings, but not y inaugural.
I have since seen “Genesis of the Daleks” and can say with much confidence Davros’ answer to the Fourth Doctor’s hypothetical whether he would like to possess the power to destroy all life in the universe just by destroying a vial of germs I his fingers would have freaked me out even more. These days, his response is my favorite Davros megalomaniac rant.
