I missed last week’s episode and never caught it online. Looks like I missed a key bit of the season story arc with the introduction of professional killer Kendra. Tonight‘s episode filled me in on enough. Unfortunately, the next episode in two weeks looks much like a rehash of interrogate the captured spy/assassin/thief they do at least once every season. Hopefully, the promised plot twist is not just hype or else we have been there, done that, and threw out the tee shirt because it is threadbare from age.
The arc addition tonight involved Michael looking to find hardware to read an outdated computer disc and winding up playing cat and mouse with Kendra. She not only wanted the disc back, but to kill Michael in the process. Michael and Sam finally catch her in the end and prep her for ye olde routine interrogation once USA is done covering tennis for the next two weeks.
Can you tell I am unenthused? I think Matt Nix has spent all his time launching The Good Guys on FOX thereby leaving Burn Notice on autopilot.
I am ambivalent about the client of the week story, too. The story featured a clinic being harassed by a local drug lord named Cutler. The gang convinces Cutler the doctor is ex-Delta force who is trying to redeem himself of a life of violence by helping the sick who cannot afford healthcare, but is more than willing to go back to his “old ways” if cutler will not close up shop.
That was the twist after Madeleine convinces Michael to can the con job they ha been running and allow the doctor to stand up for himself, or at least appear to be doing so. For me, it did not feel so much like an unusual plot turn so much throwing stuff out there to see what will stick. The episode also brought back Sugar for a brief, but ultimately unnecessary bit as well as featured several gratuitous shots of strippers when the action slowed down. The entire firs half of the story development had nothing to do with the climax or resolution. It was like watching two episodes mixed and matched.
Did the writer just throw in some filler in order to pad out the Kendra story? It felt like it. It was not horrible, but I am not impressed with the results. Nor am I particularly enthused about the next episode set to further Kendra’s story. Oh, well.
