My favorite cliffhanger is the third season finale’s flash forward reveal that some of the Lostaways got off the island, some did not, and the subsequent trouble is tearing jack apart. They have to go back.Thecliffhaner left many questions dangling. Why was Jack so tormented? Who else made it off the island? Who was still there? What happened to them that was so bad? Who was in the coffin? Who was the ’he’ Kate said would be wondering whereshe was? All these questions made for a long summer. Come to think of it, they made four a long fourth season, too, since the answers did not come quickly.
The cliffhaner was also memorable for the internet controversy surrounding leaked spoilers the Jack story that appeared to be flashback until the last few minutes was taking place in the future instead. Someone calling himself lostfan108 claimed to be a production assistant for the finale. He leaked several secrets, including the flash forward reveal, to several web sites a couple days before the episode aired.
The powers that be at Bad Robot and ABC went ito action purging spoilers as best they could, but the cat was out of the bag, had a tummy full of Meow Mix, and was nappng on message boards across the internet well efore the big reveal was supposed to occur. Nothing like that has happened since, so their must have been some tighter reins applied to the lowly Lost PAs after the bruhaha.
Still, a memorable effort at a cliffhanger.
