A woman, believed to be emotionally troubled, threw her five-year-old daughter from the fourth floor of a flat before jumping from the 10th floor of the same building. The murder-cum-suicide tragedy happened after Tan Lee Ying’s husband, Chang Fook Hwa, left to repair his car yesterday.
He had earlier dropped his wife and daughter at their apartment in Pangsapuri Aman, Jalan SK6/1 Seri Kembangan here. It was learnt that the couple had attended a Chinese New Year function at Chang’s company in Sri Serdang at 9am before picking up their only child, Man Leng, at a kindergarten at 11.30am. A family friend of the victims, identified only as Ling, said Chang received a phone call from his housemate 10 minutes later alerting him about the tragedy.
He said according to the housemate, Tan, 35, had taken a chair from their house on the second floor to the 10th floor and jumped. Ling claimed Tan was on medication for emotional problems even before she got married. “She would be all right after taking her medicine. Tan had always threatened to kill herself but we never expected this to happen because she seemed fine at the function,” he added.
Serdang OCPD Supt Abdul Razak Elias said police received a call from a member of the public at 12.30pm. He said when the police arrived, they found the bodies at two different spots. They were believed to have died due to severe head injuries. Their bodies have been sent to the Serdang Hospital for post mortem.
