There are very few times that I actually care enough about a band or musician that I actually recommend that people check them out. The first is Pet Lions, who are credited with brining me back to pop/rock from my long time allegiance solely to hip hop. Their sound is addictive and awesome; I had no choice but to return to my roots. The second is Dub FX. I just recently discovered him a month or so ago, but have been obsessed since. He began as a street performer and recently recorded his first studio album. He makes all of his songs with a loop machine, effect pedals, and his voice. Pretty impressive if you ask me. Unlike Reggie Watts, who uses a similar process, Dub FX actually makes great songs, not just humorous ramblings. Most of his songs have a lot of level 2 thinking and deeper meaning to them. The best part is, while they are legit and meaningful songs, they are incredibly entertaining and fun to listen to. This is the first non-street performance video I've come across, and I'm pretty sure it's fan made. It combines two of his songs, Future and Not Cool. I think once fans are making videos for you, that's when you've officially made it. Check him out at http://dubfx.net/
Here's one of his live performances. It really gives you a sense of the process.
