Country singer Chely wright plans to be the big celebrity coming out on May 5th Hollywood gossip rags have been buzzing about for the last few days. They ares saying she is the first outed homosexual in country music, but I have my doubts. Ty Herndon was caught with a trans-sexual hooker about ten years ago, supposedly Renee Zellwegger divorced Kenny Chesney when she discovered he had switched teams, ad there have been perpetual questions about Mary Chapin Carpenter and Shelby Lynne. but if Wright wants to say she is the first, more power to her. There does not appear to be a race to be number one there.
Wright is coming out to promote her first new album in five years--that should go over real well--and a new memoir, Like Me, in which she describes how she had to hide her true identity in order to make it in country music. Because if she did not, she would have wound up a day laborer tearing up carpet or something.
