He bemoaned the fact that "some of the craziest claims can quickly claim traction," in the clamor of certain blogs and talk radio outlets.I guess he could not pass up the opportunity to whine about his critics to a captive audience. What an egotistical crybaby. I usually try to refrain from name calling with regards to those with him I have political differences, but that assumes they have put some intelligence in forming their thoughts. Obama is mad there are people out there who oppose him with just words on a blog.
"All of this is not only putting new pressures on you, it is putting new pressures on our country and on our democracy."
Think of the implications. Obama is saying that freedom of speech is putting thoughts in people’s heads. He considers these thoughts dangerous solely because they are in conflict with his. Therefore, we need to be warned against them. Uniformity of thought is not democracy. It is a dictatorship. Sugar coat it as progressive utopianism--as I am most certain Obama does-- but it is still dictatorship.
But he does not stop there. You do not have to be inundated with political ideas from talk radio and bllogs to destroy democracy. information itself is a threat;
"With iPods and iPads and Xboxes and PlayStations, -- none of which I know how to work -- information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation," Obama said.Should we all follow his Luddite lead and be emancipated by a good round of golf? or is golf not a distraction? a case of bad for thee, but not for me? I am curious.
UPDATE: Piece of Work in Progress reminds us Obmaa gave the Queen of England an iPod--with his speeches pre-loaded.
