Some of my old school readers may not agree, but Halle Berry turn as bikini clad Jinx in Die Another Day beats Ursula Andress in Dr. No hands down.Considering my comic book/science fiction geek roots, you may be surprised to know Berry’s role as Storm in the X-Men films does not rank highly in my book. She has gone on record as feeling her character was underused and I tend to agree. Her talent was wased in them. Plus, I am very familiar with Storm from the comics. Particularly in her oldest appearances, she was a much more complex and interesting character than the pilot/lightning girl they turned her into for the films.
The less said about Catwoman the better.
My favorite of her roles is Leticia in Monster’s Ball. It is one of those movies that knocks you right between the eyes because you just do not expect to see that sort of thing make it to the screen I today’s overly sensitive America. The movie features Berry in a love affair with Billy Bob Thornton, a prison official who took part in the execution of her husband. Berry famously won a well-deserved Oscar for her role.
I cannot forget the number of incredibly sexy scenes Berry has been featured in or that she probably spurred on then husband David Justice to hit the game winning home run in the 1995 World Series which finally gave the Atlanta Bridesmaids…er, I mean Braves their first championship. That is more than enough to merit inclusion on my list.
