FERNANDO MIYATA AMAZING GUITAR SOLO

My favorite guitar solos returns to its obscure roots with this one today. Early last year I was looking for some awesome new guitar jams. The obvious choice was to go to youtube and search for "Amazing guitar solo." Unfortunately, this method gives you quite a few results of jackwagons sitting on their bed and then just ripping at the strings and headbanging. Out of the crap though Fernando Miyata emerged. I was very skeptical because I could see from the screencap that it was just some fat guy sitting in a chair in his house. Not a good start. I gave it a shot though and am happy I did. It oozes creativity and awesomeness. There is a live version out there as well, but this one sounds better.

EDDIE VAN HALEN - ERUPTION

Here is entry two in my list of favorite guitar solos.  I apologize for those who, after seeing my first selection, thought they would all be obscure choices.  This one just can't be ignored.  To be 100% honest, I didn't grow up listening to hard rock, it's something I came to later on in life.  While I was familiar with all the major hits, I probably couldn't have identified which bands were responsible for which songs. I went through a "I should learn guitar" phase in high school when I tried to self teach myself a bunch of Metallica songs; that's really when I started to go back and listen to all the good shit I had missed.  Van Halen is responsible for a shitload of the best rock songs of all time, and while this isn't technically a song, it's the shit.  At some point last year I was cruising the youtube and came across the most stereotypically rock video I have ever seen.  It wasn't over the top bullshit stage performance; it was, "goddamn that dude's fuckin' cool."  That's the second video in this post, and very well may melt your face(so be careful). The first is the strict studio version of the solo.  Watching Eddie Van Halen blowing smoke rings on stage and then shredding with the cigarette just chillin' on the head of the guitar is just flat out awesome. It doesn't get more badass.

CROSSROADS GUITAR DUEL - RALPH MACCHIO RULES

Inspired by the Steve Dahl Show, I've decided to start throwing some of my favorite guitar solos on The Skinny.  Do I have any music qualifications? Absolutely not. I would say I have limited knowledge and have never been consistent enough in listening to any one genre to actually know all of what's notable.  This are most likely not going to be the quintessential guitar solos, but I am entertained by them so you might be as well.  I'm even going to make the same mistake Steve did and start with my favorite one.

I would say about 99% of the population has never heard of the movie Crossroads.  No, not the Britney Spears movie from back when she was hot. I'm talking about the Ralph Macchio movie. Basically an old musician sold his soul to the devil for guitar skills, and it's up to Karate Kid to battle the devil to get it back for the guy.  It's not nearly as cheesy as it sounds, but that's the easy description.

Not only do I like this solo because Ralph Macchio is pretending to play it, but I also like that it's essentially a guitar duel between Steve Vai and himself. Vai played the role of the devil as well as recording the majority of Daniel-san's part of the duel.

You can stop at 1:15, unless you want to see the devil fuck up. I also threw in the entire duel for you afterwards in case you're bored. You'll notice the first rif played by the devil went on to be the basis of Bad Horsie.
